Do I still have to wear regular braces if I have Invisalign?
No. Invisalign takes the place of traditional braces. You have a choice and we can help you figure out if Invisalign is right for you.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Invisalign is designed to straighten teeth gradually, so there’s minimal discomfort. We take impressions of your teeth and make the first set of aligning trays from those impressions. The first set of trays will begin gently and gradually realigning your teeth immediately. The next set will pick up where the first set left off, and so on. The result will be beautiful, straight, healthy teeth without discomfort or inconvenience.
Do I wear these trays all the time?
You should wear the trays as much as possible, but you can take them out to eat and brush your teeth. The more you wear them, the more effective they will be. If you only wear them a few hours per day, they won’t be able to do their work to straighten your teeth. If you wear them all the time, except when you’re eating or brushing your teeth, the process will be much shorter.
Are there any food restrictions?
This is one of the best parts of Invisalign. Because you can take the trays out to eat, there are no food restrictions. This is very different from traditional braces, which have many food restrictions designed to protect the brackets and wires from breakage or other types of damage.
Is it just for kids? Is it just for adults?
Invisalign can work for people of any age. Many adults prefer this option because they can straighten their teeth without advertising that fact to the world. Some adults resist traditional braces because they fear they would make them look too young, and that makes Invisalign even more appealing to them. They’re popular among teenagers for a variety of reasons, including comfort and the lack of food restrictions.
Isn’t straightening teeth just cosmetic?
No, but that’s a common misconception. Let’s say you were going to paint two fences. One was broken, with extra spaces between some of the slats, while other slats overlapped each other. No matter how hard you worked, getting the paintbrush between the overlaps to paint a nice, fresh coat could be pretty tough. The gaps would be easier to paint, but the paint wouldn’t close the gaps. The other fence is nice and smooth, with even spaces and no gaps or overlaps. It’s easy to paint, and it works very well.
Your mouth functions better when your teeth are evenly spaced without gaps, crowding, or bite problems. When your teeth are healthy, it’s easier to keep them clean. In addition, they function better and are more likely to last longer.
Will people know I have braces?
They’ll know if you tell them. Otherwise, Invisalign, as the name implies, gives you the option to keep your orthodontics to yourself because the aligning trays are virtually invisible.
